A COMPACT HOME

Completed in December 2017, the residence is located on the heights of Sainte-Adèle in the Laurentians. The house is built on a concrete slab, and comprises a first floor and a second floor. There is no basement! The first floor consists mainly of an open-plan kitchen, dining room and living room. A bike workshop, laundry room and shower room, as well as a screened-in veranda complete this space. Upstairs are three bedrooms and the master bathroom. The concept also envisages that the veranda and attic could be converted into living space, at lower cost because they are already prepared for this purpose (insulation, heating, planned relocation of the current patio door). This would increase the living area from 1,620 sq. ft. to 2,200 sq. ft.

A distinctive house plan

The house’s distinctive architectural style is the result of a fusion between a very modern style (clean lines, large south-facing windows, transparent living spaces that open onto the surrounding nature) and the traditional characteristics of Laurentian country houses, which make extensive use of natural materials and feature steeply pitched roofs well-suited to the local climate. The roof cladding is made entirely of enamelled sheet steel, with a lifetime warranty. The exterior cladding, locally sourced and of the highest quality, was installed in accordance with the highest industry standards, including the use of ventilation and rodent-proof mouldings at the top and bottom of the walls. Windows are all-aluminum on the first floor and aluminum/pvc hybrids upstairs. All units are Energy Star certified.

Integrated home automation

The Ecohab home is in line with the latest trends in home automation. Using the Home Kit platform developed by Apple, it’s easy to remotely control your home’slighting, temperature management and door locks.

An eco-friendly, high-performance home

The Ecohab house offers outstanding eco-performance, confirmed by the fact that it has been awarded the certifications LEED Platinum and Novoclimat certifications. The house received an Energuide rating of 84. Additional insulation was added on the entire exterior surface, from the roof to a depth of four feet in the ground, to counter the thermal bridge. The thermal bridge cut-off was increased from R 4 to R 10, and the R factor of the walls reached 38. The multi-energy heating system (heated slab, heat pump, EPA-approved wood-burning fireplace, baseboards, wastewater heat recovery unit) adds to its comfort and versatility. A multi-room heat pump (one head in the attic and one on each of the upper floors) is installed on each floor.
