The Gore residence
Tucked away deep in the woods, this pretty Scandinavian-style chalet offers its owners an escape from city life. The project has been awarded LEED Gold and Novoclimat certifications.
A well-oriented home
Designed in a rectangular shape to fit in well with the steep terrain, it has 1,800 sq.ft. on two floors. The house has three bedrooms, a full bathroom and a powder room, as well as a large open-plan main floor and a screened-in porch. The abundantly fenestrated south-facing facade offers spectacular views of Lac William and the surrounding mountains.
Abundant windows
All doors and windows are Energy Star certified. Windows are aluminum on the outside and black-painted PVC on the inside. The house is heated by electric baseboard heaters. On the first floor, given the large windows, wall baseboards have been installed at the top of the windows. An EPA-approved wood-burning fireplace is used for auxiliary heating.
A modern-style chalet
On the first floor, the floors are white pine, while on the garden level, the floors are concrete. The frameless interior finish of the doors and windows gives the property a modern look. The kitchen island and cabinets were custom-made to the clients specifications.
A steel roof
The steel roof and colored door add dynamism to the house’s clean lines. Spruce siding with 2-tone stain was installed. This wood siding comes with a 50-year manufacturer’s warranty against rot.
